Blessed Be!

Blessed Be!

Praised be You, my Lord,
through Sister Earth our Mother
who sustains and governs us."

- St. Francis of Assisi

I am an Inter spiritual Monastic

Even though my spiritual path has lead me, primarily toward earth based traditions such as Wicca, Paganism, Druidism, Shamanism etc, I have always been fascinated by the religious life of Monks and Nuns.  I theorize that this 'divine seduction' is something that may be brought into this life from a previous one.  In any case, I had always thought that I would never be able to pursue such a path in this life as I am very much a witch.

There have always been Saints that I just came to adore in my life.  In particular, Hildegard von Bingen who wrote such glorious words as:

“Every creature is a glittering, glistening mirror of Divinity.”

and

“Glance at the sun. See the moon and the stars. Gaze at the beauty of earth’s greenings. Now, think. What delight God gives to humankind with all these things . All nature is at the disposal of humankind. We are to work with it. For without we cannot survive.”

Then of course, St Francis of Assisi's Canticle of the Creatures:

"Most High, all-powerful,
good Lord,
yours is the praise,
the glory and the honor and every blessing.

To you alone, Most High,
do they belong,
and no one is worthy
to speak your name.

Praised be you, my Lord
with all your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun,
who is the day through whom
you bring us light.

And he is lovely, shining
with great splendor,
for he heralds you, Most High.

Praised be you, my Lord,
through Sister Moon and Stars.
In heaven you have formed them,
lightsome and precious and fair.

And praised be you, my Lord,
through Brother Wind, through
air and cloud, through calm
and every weather by which
you sustain your creatures.

Praised be you, my Lord,
through Sister Water,
so very useful and humble,
precious and chaste.

Praised be you, my Lord
through Brother Fire,
by whom you light up
the night, and he is
handsome and merry,
robust and strong.

Praised be you, my Lord,
through our Sister, Mother Earth,
who sustains us and directs us
bringing forth all kinds of fruits
and colored flowers and herbs.

Praised be you, my Lord
through those who forgive
for your love
and who bear sickness and trial.

Blessed are those
who endure in peace,
for by you, Most High,
they will be crowned.

Praised be you, my Lord,
through our Sister Bodily Death
from whom no living being
can escape.

How dreadful for those
who die in mortal sin!
How blessed are those she
finds in your most holy will
for the second death
can do them no harm.

O praise and bless my Lord,
thank him and serve him
humbly but grandly!"

A couple years ago, I stumbled upon The Tau Community of Interfaith Franciscans.  This is a fourth order monastic group that is largely catholic, however it is open to all faiths and none.  We have members from all manner of faith traditions, including little ol' me, the pantheist witch.

This past Easter I took First Vows (these last for five years, after which, I can take my Full Profession of Vows.) Below are photos of myself just after the ceremony and of my simple Altar for the occasion.
